Venice went into game four last Friday night knowing that it would take a superb effort to win at the PalaCarrara. Pistoia had been almost unbeatable at home this year having won 13 of 15 games during the regular season and the first home game of this quarterfinal series. But unlike Wednesday night's game three in which The Flexx weathered Venice's hot start, the white-and-red were never able to stop Venice's great shooting and, except for a brief spell in the second quarter, trailed throughout the game.
The Flexx, down to an eight-man rotation after Teddy Okereafor's season ending game three shoulder injury, also simply ran out of gas in the second half. Terran Petteway continued his great play in the series and led Pistoia with 21 points including 11 straight to start the game. It was fitting that the white-and-red's three big men all scored in double figures - Andrea Crosariol 14, Daniele Magro and Nathan Boothe 10 each - to put an exclamation point on a great season. Michele Antonutti had another solid game to close out a stellar final part of the season after injuries compromised his performance for much of the year. Newcomer Micheal Jenkins and Eric Lombardi, while not shooting well in this game or in the series in general, still provided great court presence especially on the defensive end. Last but not least, Ronald Moore closed out what is surely his best season in the Italian Serie A with 8 dimes.
Now it's time to wait for Pistoia's front office to work its usual summer magic and see what happens next season. Have a great summer and let's go Pistoia!
